Lesson 7

Jesus Christ Created the World for Me

A Little Something For You:
In October the Visiting Teaching Message was "The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: Creator" It has some beautiful quotes and can enrich this lesson for you.

Lesson Song:
My Heavenly Father Loves Me
The following links are visual aids for the song. The first is a beautifully illustrated flipchart, the only downside is it is 13 pages. The second link is the same illustrations just condensed so not as much printing is involved, it also has the song with it so you could even bring your computer and play the song from there while looking at the pictures and not do any printing at all!

Lesson Focus:
Make sure to emphasize that the reason Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ created all of these things for us is because they love us. Help the children feel that love!

Additional Ideas:
If it is a nice day outside go for a walk outside and talk about how Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ created the trees and the grass and the sunshine... Ask the children what they see and emphasize that Heavenly Father created that for them because He loves them so much.

Here is another movement activity in case the kids are wiggly!

I Wiggle
I wiggle my fingers, I wiggle my toes,
I wiggle my ears, I wiggle my nose
I wiggle my shoulders, I wiggle my chin,

I stretch out my arms, and pull them back in
I wiggle my elbows, I wiggle my knees,

I hop like a bunny, I smile and say "CHEESE"
Now no more wiggles are left in me,

so I will be still, as still as can be

Lesson 6

The Holy Ghost Helps Me

A little something for you: Here is a talk for you to listen to help you spiritually prepare to teach this lesson.

http://www.lds.org/general-conference/1974/04/the-holy-ghost?lang=eng&query=The+Holy+Ghost

The main idea in this lesson is that the Holy Ghost influences us to do good things. Throughout the day, while they are playing and while they are eating snack, when they do something positive validate their behavior and remind them of the lesson (even if you haven't taught it yet!)

After snack while they are coloring make your own Cube so that you can play the cube game. (See the manual)

As you know children can't be expected to sit still long so the best thing you can do is split things up so that you can keep their attention. Do one small part of the lesson and then sing a song. Do another part of the lesson and get up and wiggle. Tell the story from the lesson and then do the role play.  You can have more meaningful lessons and teach more if you teach in small sections.

*Oh and always remember: Read and prepare your lesson beforehand and always start the lesson with a prayer!

Here is a fun song that you can use to get the children's wiggles out:

MY THUMBS ARE STARTING TO WIGGLE
Tune:  “The Bear Went Over The Mountain”

My thumbs are starting to wiggle.
My thumbs are starting to wiggle.
My thumbs are starting to wiggle,
Around and around and around.

My hands are starting to wiggle.
My hands are starting to wiggle.
My hands are starting to wiggle,
Around and around and around.

Continue with other body parts.

I like to end it with:
Now all of me is a wiggling.
Now all of me is a wiggling.
Now all of me is a wiggling.
I think that I better sit down.

As you say the last line show them to sit down and fold their arms.

Here is a video if you can't quite hear it:

The key to using songs like this is to get into it yourself, I promise you'll feel more silly if you are only doing it halfway!

Welcome To the Blog

Welcome to the Bonneville 11th Ward Nursery Blog. The purpose of this blog is to help our nursery serve its purpose!

First things first. What is the purpose? The nursery manual says the following:

"The purpose of the nursery class is to help children learn the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and live it. The nursery class should help the children increase their understanding of and love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, have positive experiences in a Church setting, and grow in feelings of self-worth."

So there you have it, you have not been called as the ward babysitters, you have been called as teachers!

My goal here is to help make church an uplifting experience for the children and for you wonderful teachers.
